History and Plot of the Universe
The universe is separated into three realms of existence, and other sub realms in between. These three realms are Soul Society, the Living World, and the world of Hueco Mundo. Others include Hell. A Soul is the basis of any and every being in existence, and every Soul has varying amounts of Spirital Energy or reiryoku. Those with low amounts of reiryoku make up the general norm of the population of the Living World and Soul Society, but there are some who have greater reiryoku than others, even others with enough reiryoku to split the heavens.
In the World of the Living, people are normal, every day humans, oblivious to the spirits around them, and their reiryoku are extremely low, to where they cannot see spirits around them. Highly effected by the simplest of spells, they are the play things of Hollows. Every so often though, whether by chance or the wind blew in the right direction, every once in a while, a human will gain enough reiryoku to see these monsters, and enough power to fight for their lives. A human who dies becomes a Pluse, and will naturally find their way into Soul Society, very often with no memory of who they were in their previous life. Those who don't, out of despair, attachment to the earth, or no reason at all, will eventually transform into a Hollow, unless purified by a Shinigami. They are the enemies of Hollows and the guardians of souls, guiding them to Soul Society so that they might live in peace and be reborn again to the Earth.
In all the worlds, however, an event has occurred that has left a power vacuum of vast proportions. In Soul Society, the Captains and Lieutenants of the Gotei 13, the most powerful of all Shinigami, along with every other citizen with enough power to rival them, have all but disappeared. Every Hollow in Hueco Mundo with more power than a Gillan has disappeared. It's as if something swept over every realm and striped them of the strongest beings. Central 46, the governing body of Soul Society, went into an uproar, and panic echoed from them. Calling for the immediate recruitment of souls capable of acquiring Bankai, the highest level a Shinigami can have, but they can only hope that luck is with them and find someone who is strong enough to become a Captain. In Hueco Mundo, the world of Hollows, they are not so flustered by the event, but even they are curious about it. To make matters even more confusing, in the Living World, the reiryoku of some humans are increasing, with others developing unique powers. Are these events connected and what's causing the disappearance of every powerful being in both spirit worlds? Is this a random event that could not be foreseen...?
...or is someone pulling strings from behind the scenes?
