Vizard - The Masked Army
The Vizard are Shinigami who have acquired the powers of a Hollow, either through their own effort and desire, or through the unfortunate event of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. To become a Vizard is called Hollowfication, a transformation that takes down the barrier between the powers of a Shinigami and the powers of a Hollow. This can happen through a number of means, the main way is by using a form of Kido to take down this barrier, a process that is both dangerous and deadly. The Kido used to do this is also a forbidden spell under the highest punishments Soul Society can bring. Soul Society believes the act of acquiring these powers is corruption of the Shinigami, morally taboo, and will banish any Shinigami, if not pronounce them traitors.
To undergo Hollowfication is to bring life to that of a Hollow inside your soul. These Hollows are powerful creatures in their own right, and they will attempt at every opening they can find to take over the body of the Shinigami they live within. Sometimes these battles happen right after one begins Hollowfication, but strong individuals can slow these events, even resist them, making it incredibly difficult for the Hollow to control the body. This, however, does not last forever. Over time, the Hollow will gain control if left unchallenged, and will slowly take the body by force. To defeat this Hollow, the Shinigami must release all control over their body, and enter into a meditative state inside their mind, either by will or by force, and fight for control within their own soul.
Unfortunately, this is the only way to defeat their Inner Hollow, and during this time, the Hollow will take control of the body, transforming it slowly into a Hollow. If the Shinigami does not defeat their Inner Hollow before the transformation is complete, they will become a Hollow, and their mind will be suppressed. This can be reversed, as the Shinigami is not truly gone, and can get back control over of their body beyond the time it took to become a Hollow. At such a time, the body will return to that of a Shinigami. Highly dangerous, the only time this is safe is to undergo this process with the help of other Vizard. Their body will be in the Hollow's control, and unless stopped physically, they will cause destruction.
If they should defeat their Inner Hollow, they acquire what's known as a Hollow Mask. By donning this Hollow Mask in battle, their powers tremendously increase and they gain access to a variety of Hollow powers, but only with the mask on. With the mask on, their access to various abilities such as Cero are only limited to the extent of the powers of their own Hollow. At the same time, with it on, their voice changes to a combination of their normal voice and their Inner Hollow's voice, speaking simultaneously. The Shinigami's reiatsu also will change into a mix of both a Shinigami's and a Hollow's. The Vizard are only one of two races to have reiatsu of this nature, the other being the Arrancar. Since an Arrancar is a Hollow with Shinigami powers, it is very easy to mistake one for the other, for their reiatsu is literately a combination of both Shinigami and Hollow.
As Shinigami, they will appear to be just Shinigami, so long as they do not don on their mask. Their Zanpakutou and Shinigami powers progress as normal, acquiring Bankai and so forth if they haven't already. The level of the Inner Hollow increases like a normal character, but without the need to consume other Hollows, leveling up until a Gillian class power level. Their appearance does not change, however, until they become an Adjuchas at their level of 30, and then again at 45 when they become a Vasto Lorde. Twenty levels after your Vizard acquires their Hollow Mask, they will gain the power to preform their version of Resurreccion. For an Arrancar, Resurreccion involves releasing their former powers, and for a Vizard, this involves using the powers of their Inner Hollow.
Points put into your Hollow Mask will count the same like that of any other technique. They also function the same as Shikai and Bankai, multiplying the points by a number, and distributing the result to your abilities. The original number, however, is an indicator of how long the mask can be worn. If 60 points is used, the mask can be worn for one minute. If 120 points, two minutes, and so on. Using spells and techniques of levels greater than the level of their Hollow Mask will shorten the amount of time they have to use their mask, varying from seconds to a few minutes to causing the mask to shatter instantly upon release or even before releasing the ability. If no abilities are used, some can wear their mask for hours without fatigue. For the power increases, the points used to increase the level of the Hollow Mask are tripled. If 250 points are used for the Hollow Mask, 750 points are used amongst your stats, but only when your Vizard wears his mask. Once a Vizard reaches his limit to using a mask, it shatters, and they must wait to use it again. The time to wait could be one hour, or several. Some Vizard are capable of summoning it again for short bursts of time after it shatters, but the physical strain on their bodies is enormous, a feat beyond that of any average Vizard.
For a Vizard's Resurreccion, the point increase varies from person to person, but generally, they will not have access to any of their Shinigami powers or Hollow Mask. Instead of using Hoho, the Vizard would instead be using Sonido, the Arrancar's version of Hoho. Techniques used for their Resurreccion can only be preformed within it. Their reiatsu will also completely change to that of a Hollow's while using Resurreccion.
